The island of Rügen

Experiencing Germany's largest island with a bicycle means - away from the large traffic routes, where our drives are also a little more strenuous at times - getting to know the manifold character of its countrysides and charms.

This unique nature experience of undertaking a cycling tour on Ruegen is rewarded by many impressions and experiences as this will surely be a holiday that will remain in your memories for a long time. The cliffs of Jasmund, the chalk cliffs which the famous painter Caspar David Friedrich captured on canvas, the unique hilly forest areas, old avenues, the stone graves of the early period, massive brick churches, the scent of forests and 'Bodden' (bays along the Baltic Sea), Cape Arkona buffeted by high surf, the classical town of Putbus, a sea resort of past feudalism, castles and fishermen's villages, beaches and bays inviting you to indulge in daydreams, the small isle Hiddensee with more to offer than beautiful beaches, hidden paths and old trade routes, solitude and silence, but also bustling activity, the zest for life of sea resorts and many impressions. All this makes Ruegen the cycling experience of the very special kind.

Long Ruegen Tour (Tour RUEG 02 oder RUEG 03)
Total length: approx. 215 km
Total duration: 8 days/7 nights (RUEG 02) oder 7 days/6 nights (RUEG 03)

1st day: Arrival in Stralsund
Acceptance of the roadsters until 5 p.m. Stralsund invites you to have a stroll through the old heart of the town Overnight stay in Stralsund.
2nd day: Stralsund - Southwest Ruegen approx. 35 - 40 km
Your tour first leads you to Altefaehr via the Ruegen dike or with the ferry. Along the peaceful west coast of Ruegen, your trip takes you across the centre of the island. For a time, the way follows the national park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft /West Pomeranian countryside between bays, a true paradise for local birds. Overnight stay in Southwest Ruegen or Bergen. (This leg does not apply for Tour 03)
3rd day: Southwest Ruegen – Granitz approx. 40 km - 45 km
Bergen, located in the centre of the island, invites you to make a tour of the town. The way through forests and old avenues leads you to Putbus, a former royal residence and sea resort built in the classical style. You cycle to the sea resorts along the Greifswald Bodden/countryside between bays. Overnight stay in one of the resorts.
4th day: Granitz - Moenchgut - Granitz approx. 30-35 km round tour
Peaceful and tranquil, beaches of fine sand alternating with cliffs, idyllic fishermen's villages and scented pine forests, this is what characterizes Moenchgut. Fishermen and farmers have always lived on this peninsula and have contributed to what makes this little gem on Ruegen so beautiful. Overnight stay, as on the previous day, in one of the resorts.

5th day: Granitz - Jasmund approx. 35 km
Via the hunters lodge on the Granitz, you cycle to Binz and continue along the elongated bay past Prora and on into the hilly countryside of the national park "Jasmund". The chalk cliffs are surely the best known part and which the painter Caspar David Friedrich implemented as motif for so many of his paintings.Overnight stay in the Jasmund park.
6th day: Jasmund - Koenigsstuhl - Jasmund approx. 40 km
On this day you will be accompanied by unique panoramas of the island and the sea. The Stubbenkammer with the mighty, in parts over 100 m high chalk cliffs, the Wissower Klinken and much more are waiting to be discovered. Overnight stay in Jasmund or Wittow.
7th day: Jasmund - Wittow - Hiddensee - Stralsund ca. 25 km
You cycle on a narrow tongue of land between Bodden/land between bays and the sea to Wittow, the most northern part of the island. You take the ship to Hiddensee, the small isle sister of Ruegen. The Dornbusch in the north juts over 60 m into the heights. With its steep cliffs and forested heights it is certainly a destination worth your while. You leave the isle again in the afternoon and return to Stralsund over the Bodden waters.Overnight stay in Stralsund.
8th day: Return home under your own steam.
