Danube Bike Trail Passau–Vienna

The most popular bike trail of Europe goes along the beautiful blue Danube: the bike classic from Passau to Vienna. It offers phantasmagoric river landscapes with steep, wooden slopes, vineyards and fruit plantations and a legendary cultivated land with innumerable sights of the Roman time and crusaders. Every region, such as Schlögener Schlinge, Strudengau, Nibelungengau or Wachau, has it’s own attraction. Wineries or guesthouses invite for a break and indulge with Austrian kitchen. Usually you cycle directly along the Danube on perfect bikeways. The leg isn’t just beautiful, it is continuously flat, so that you will not have to care about huge acclivity.

1.day  Passau Arrival
Look forward to the ‘town of the three rivers’. You should arrive well on time so that you can still visit some sights. Information and rental bikes at the hotel. Arrival by German Railway possible.

2. day  Linz 66 km + 25 km by boat
In the morning at 9 o'clock you will go by boat to Engelhartszell. Now you have time enough for all sights. Take a look to Trappist monastery into the Schlögener Donauschlinge. 5. day  Spitz 45 km
You will spend the whole day on the bank of the Danube or instead you may go on a trip to the pompous Baroque Benedikterstift in Melk which is situated high above on a rock. A visit is definitely worth! Your accommodation for tonight is worth seeing, too. It is located on the beginning of the Wachau, which has been appointed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
