Canal du Midi   -   Biking along Europe's most beautiful canal

The Canal du Midi in Southern France is definitely Europe's most beautiful canal. You pass through historic towns and sleepy, quaint villages. Admirers of nature's beauty will be just as satisfied as admirers of architectural and historic sights.

TOUR PROFILE:
flat; you bike partly on non-asphalted, natural bike paths, some gravel roads and some small country roads.

ROUTE:
Nearest Airports: Montpellier or Beziers-Vias
Day 1: Sète   Individual arrival.
Day 2: Sète - Agde/Cap d'Agde (approx. 35 km/22 miles)
Along the beach you bike on field paths to Cap d'Agde, a lovely village with an old roman church.
Day 3: Cap d'Agde - Bèziers (approx. 30km/19 miles)
On side roads and along the Canal du Midi you reach the town of Beziers. Visit the old city and the cathedral.
Day 4: Bèziers - Narbonne (approx. 50 km/31 miles)
Via the bridge over the river Orb you reach the locks of Fonséranes and continue on side roads and field paths, passing the villages of Ensérunes and Capestang till you reach Narbonne.
Day 5: Narbonne - Homps (approx. 45 km/28 miles)
From Narbonne (archbishop's palace, gothic cathedral) you cycle anlong the Canal de la Robine and the Canal du Midi till Homps.
Day 6: Homps - Carcassone (approx. 50 km/31 miles)
Again you follow the Canal du Midi until you reach the fascinating, historical city of Carcassone with its huge medieval fortress, the largest in Europe.
Day 7: Carcassonne
Individual departure or extension (return transfer available).
